Lights by Interpol

song of the day

Interpol released this song as a free download on their website a couple of weeks ago. Just after that the band announced that bassist Carlos D was leaving the band to “follow another path, and to pursue new goals”. Bummer! But in great news, the band will be releasing  their 4th album this year & will go on tour. So far only East Coast dates have been announced & a few dates opening for U2. I’m hoping they announce West Coast dates soon. Stay tuned…

Your Easy Lovin’ Ain’t Pleasin’ Nothin’ by Mayer Hawthorne

This white dude (Andrew Mayer Cohen) really bring the R&B & Soul. Mayer Hawthorne’s debut album A Strange Arrangement is full of old school Motown sounding jams. So if you dig that stuff, then you will like this for sure…

They whole gang is back with their 5th album Together which was released last week. Neko Case takes the vocal duties on this one & even borrows a lyric from The Smiths song “Panic“. Conversation 16 by The National

song of the day

Tomorrow, The National are releasing their highly anticapated 5th album High Violet. But like everything these days the album was leaked a couple of weeks ago & it is really good, as expected. They have the kind of songs that give you goose bumps, well they do that to me at least. It was tough to choose just one but I went with this tune. The band is currently on tour & will be playing L.A. on May 21st & 22nd (sold out) at the Wiltern.

Two Door Cinema Club @ the Troubadour 5/5

Super music friends & I were out in full force to see Two Door Cinema Club on Cinco de Mayo at the Troubadour. It was a sold out show & it was a great time. This young Irish band put on an awesome show & the crowd was really into it. I only was able to take one video as security was right behind me during the show & I didn’t want to get the boot.

Phantogram are a girl/guy duo from Sarasota Springs, NY consisting of Joshua Carter & Sarah Bartel. Their debut album Eyelid Movies was released back in February & I really dig it. It has such a great mixture of sounds, a little soul, some electronic & hip hop beats & a bit of shoegaze mixed in. They were just here last week opening for The Antlers sold out show at the Troubdaour. Phantogram will be back opening for The xx at the Fonda & the Wiltern in June. I can’t wait for the Fonda show! Hope you all got your tickets because both LA shows are sold out! It was hard for me to pick which song to post because they are all so good. Hope you enjoy…

Broken Social Scene @ the Fonda 5/3/10

LIVE

A couple of my super music friends & I went to see Broken Social Scene last night at the Fonda. I love this band & I love going to the Fonda! It’s one of my favorite music venues here in Los Angeles. B.S.S played for 2 solid hours which most bands never do, plus guitarist Brendan Canning had the flu. They played all “the hits” and a bunch of tunes from the new album Forgiveness Rock Record that was released today. There was a guest violinst & a couple of local guest horn players, notably Stewart Cole, the trumpet player from Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros. At several times during the show, there were at least 12 people on stage rockin’ out. Great stuff! Singer Kevin Drew was very thankful for the sold out crowd & mentioned they’d be back in the fall. If you get the chance, go see them next time they’re in L.A. or your town. Here a couple of videos I took, check em’ out…
