Kele, the singer from Bloc Party put out a solo album last month called Boxer. He just released the first video from it. It’s very different than the music from his band. I haven’t given it much of a  chance yet, but I do like this tune.

Every now & then a band comes along that I instantly love. The L.A. duo Kisses are one of those bands for me. I just love this song & their debut album The Heart of the Nightlife. Today’s tune is from one of my top 5 favourite bands ever. Interpol is set to release their 4th album which will be self-titled on September 7th. They recently lost bassist Carlos D. but have found a replacement for touring. I can’t wait to hear the new album & see them when they tour! So far the only scheduled SoCal date is in San Diego on October 21st at Soma. Tickets on sale today at 10 am.

Cults are a boyfriend-girlfriend duo from New York. They are very new to the music scene & have only released a few songs so far. They just released a song & a video called “Oh My God” for The Adult Swim Singles Program. The channel released a single each week for 8 weeks. This was the final one. It’s good stuff!

Nada Surf just released an all-covers album called If I Had A Hi-fi which is one of the coolest album titles since it’s also a palindrome. I love palindromes! Pretty good cover songs on the album too. This is one of them.

So this one is a bit old but I still love it. It reminds me of high school. It’s from one of my all-time favourite bands, The Afghan Whigs. Sadly they are no longer together. The original song was done by a group that I don’t like at all, the girl “hip-hop” group TLC. Greg Dulli (singer of The Afghan Whigs and The Twilight Singers) loves to do covers and he always does them well!

L.A.’s own Ariel Pink is playing tomorrow night at the Echoplex. This guy is pretty amazing! He’s been writing songs since he was 10 years old. Ariel Pink plays & produces almost all of his own music. He’s recorded over 500 songs on hundreds of cassette tapes since 1996. He recently signed to 4AD Records last November. His new album Before Today just came out last month.

CocoRosie has to be the strangest band I listen to. The band is made of  two sisters, Bianca “Coco” and Sierra “Rosie” Casady. I’m not a fan of all their music but they definitely have some songs that I really like. This one starts out a bit slow but gets good. It is off their new album Grey Oceans. They are playing tonight downtown at the Orpheum Theatre.
