Everything You Wanted by Kele

song of the day

Kele, the singer from Bloc Party put out a solo album last month called Boxer. He just released the first video from it. It’s very different than the music from his band. I haven’t given it much of a  chance yet, but I do like this tune.

People Can Do The Most Amazing Things by Kisses

song of the day

Every now & then a band comes along that I instantly love. The L.A. duo Kisses are one of those bands for me. I just love this song & their debut album The Heart of the Nightlife. No release date yet but I gotta an advance copy that I’ve been enjoying a lot. His voice reminds of a more serious Jens Lekman.

Lady Daydream by Twin Sister

song of the day

Twin Sister will be in town on Tuesday opening for Bear In Heaven at the Echo. I have never seen them live. I’ve been looking forward to this show for a while. Beach Fossils are playing as well. 3 good bands at a great venue. Here’s a video of them playing the song live, sort of acoustic style.

Enjoy the Silence (Depeche Mode cover) by Nada Surf

(cover) song of the day

Nada Surf just released an all-covers album called If I Had A Hi-fi which is one of the coolest album titles since it’s also a palindrome. I love palindromes! Pretty good cover songs on the album too. This is one of them.

Creep (TLC cover) by The Afghan Whigs

(cover) song of the day

So this one is a bit old but I still love it. It reminds me of high school. It’s from one of my all-time favourite bands, The Afghan Whigs. Sadly they are no longer together. The original song was done by a group that I don’t like at all, the girl “hip-hop” group TLC. Greg Dulli (singer of The Afghan Whigs and The Twilight Singers) loves to do covers and he always does them well!

Round And Round by Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti

song of the day

L.A.’s own Ariel Pink is playing tomorrow night at the Echoplex. This guy is pretty amazing! He’s been writing songs since he was 10 years old. Ariel Pink plays & produces almost all of his own music. He’s recorded over 500 songs on hundreds of cassette tapes since 1996. He recently signed to 4AD Records last November. His new album Before Today just came out last month.

Lemonade by CocoRosie

song of the day

CocoRosie has to be the strangest band I listen to. The band is made of  two sisters, Bianca “Coco” and Sierra “Rosie” Casady. I’m not a fan of all their music but they definitely have some songs that I really like. This one starts out a bit slow but gets good. It is off their new album Grey Oceans. They are playing tonight downtown at the Orpheum Theatre.
